long distance

your body's text drips
with promise

carefully you detonate words
like bombs in my ears
imploding
into loving memory

to think that i could
not translate your expressions

identify the echoes of your sub-text
by now familiar
yet muted
by our distance

Fertility Tree

in this muddled and murky urban place
i behold a tree
fingertips of beautilful long and slender leaves
a curvaceous trunk holds her steady

with a legacy as amazing amazon queen of the city
she wears her battle scars well
solid, graceful, fertile, dignified
she has bled the blood of her ancestors

she's given birth
to a forest of trees
she was not without strong roots
her seeds had been sown
she stands unbreakable, unbendable, unafraid

in the chaos and peace of my knowing
i feel our connection
hear stories pouring from her branches
of her life in this muddled and murky urban place
where she was not meant to survive

untethered

and there i was
and so was She
we stood near
holding our breaths
crying ancient tears
crossing our fingers
whispering prayers
as the decision to let go
became our beautiful, beautiful freedom
